What is it?
The GDPR will supersede the data protection directive. It is a set of rules that will enforce strict regulations to protect privacy and data security of individuals within the European union.
When does it come in to effect?
Enforcement date: 25 May 2018
Who does it effect?
It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location and size. Although, there are different rules depending on your size of business.
What do you need to do?
Start by taking a look at the personal data you hold and begin to document it (if you haven’t already). Begin to plan how you will prepare for GDPR. Review your current procedures in place for protecting privacy of personal data and ensure every piece of personal information held by your business is identified and you have consent. You may also need to appoint a data protection officer.
